Movements of Modernism

This fall we explored the world of Felix Vallotton in finding inspiration from portraits, genre paintings and landscape masterpieces.  Each pillow is fully saturated in colors that conjure emotion. Patterns are created kaleidoscopically from Valloton’s subjects and find geometry in a pillow form.  The result is a collection of pillows that not only offer pops of colour in luxurious finishes of sateen to velvet but also lets us delve into the settings and sentiments painted by Vallotton.  In the above pillow, we patterned a remnant of a painting titled La Chaste Suzanne by Vallotton and created a surrealistic imagery over hues of purple.   These along with matching throws and more will be on exhibit at High Point Market in October of 2019.  Pillows are currently available for pre-sale on our wholesale website at poeticpillow.com.

Each Day A Life
By Robert William Service
I count each day a little life,
With birth and death complete;
I cloister it from care and strife
And keep it sane and sweet.

With eager eyes I greet the morn,
Exultant as a boy,
Knowing that I am newly born
To wonder and to joy.

And when the sunset splendours wane
And ripe for rest am I,
Knowing that I will live again,
Exultantly I die.

O that all Life were but a Day
Sunny and sweet and sane!
And that at Even I might say:
“I sleep to wake again.”

Paintings by Felix Vallotton are currently on exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Stained Glass Poetry - Highlights For High Point Market

10/9/2019

American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany worked in decorative arts and is best known for his work in stained glass. His designs are most associated with the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements.
The following collection of pillows and accessories was  inspired from the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany in his various mediums.  Here, hand blown glass lamp shades and windows come to life in reflecting flowers through hues of light.
Using graphically applications, photos of Tiffany's works in stained glass have been adapted into a digital format and altered to reflect greater saturation, highlighting hues and creating contrast.  Leveraging innovations in digital fabric printing, colours and patterns have been adapted digitally onto fabric.
Designs are conceived in our studios in Oakland, California.  Fabric is printed and sewn in China. Each pillow is stuffed and shipped from Oakland, California.

NPA-019 Tiffany Magnolias Pillow
The original form of this work of art is in a stained glass window.  Tiffany meticulously created the silhouette of magnolia blossoms and each bloom comes to life in shades of cream on a blue sky.  This kidney sized pillow measures 10" inches by 16" inches.  Art work is printed on the front and back on a silky poly satin.  Covers are removable via an invisible zipper and machine washable in gentle cycle.  A down and feather pillow insert is included.

NPA-019S1672 Tiffany Magnolias Scarf
The colours and patterns of Tiffany's magnolia stained glass inspired us to play and conjure patterns that displayed the beauty and artistry of stained glass art.  With meticulousness Tiffany created silhouettes of blooms on trees that organically came to life.  We patterned these stems and flowers and created a scarf that uniquely captures the vibrancy and spirit of Tiffany's work. Scarves are made of satin charmeuse and measure 16" inches by 72" inches.  Each is hand-cut and sewn with a baby rolled finished hem.  Scarves may be hand washed in cold water and are made one at a time in Canada.

NPA-020   Tiffany Irises Pillow   | 10” X 16”
In this pillow, bearded irises come to life in moody hues of purple and aubergine.  The original medium of this art is a stained glass window by Tiffany.  The placement of the Irises and long sworded leaves conjure the works of Vincent Van Gogh in his study of Irises and self portrait.

Wisteria blooms come to life in gradients of lavender in this Tiffany inspired design.  The original work by Tiffany is a lampshade illuminated by light.  Patterning the blooms and saturated the blue tones and reds gave dimension to our fabric.

October
by Thomas Edward

The green elm with the one great bough of gold
Lets leaves into the grass slip, one by one, --
The short hill grass, the mushrooms small milk-white,
Harebell and scabious and tormentil,
That blackberry and gorse, in dew and sun,
Bow down to; and the wind travels too light
To shake the fallen birch leaves from the fern;
The gossamers wander at their own will.
At heavier steps than birds' the squirrels scold.

The rich scene has grown fresh again and new
As Spring and to the touch is not more cool
Than it is warm to the gaze; and now I might
As happy be as earth is beautiful,
Were I some other or with earth could turn
In alternation of violet and rose,
Harebell and snowdrop, at their season due,
And gorse that has no time not to be gay.
But if this be not happiness, -- who knows?
Some day I shall think this a happy day,
And this mood by the name of melancholy
Shall no more blackened and obscured be.
