In 1898 the steamship Valdivia left Hamburg for a nine month scientific voyage to the Atlantic, Indian and Great Southern oceans. Led by Leipzig University Professor of Zoology Carl Chun, the German deep sea expedition investigated chemical, zoological and physical characteristics encountered in the oceans during the voyage. After the completion of his expedition, Chun published “The Cephalopoda Part I: Oegopsida” and “Part II: Myopsida, Octopoda Atlas” in 1910. The artisans at Poetic Pillow have re-imagined the original illustrations found within Carl Chun’s book into vivid pillow covers. Each pillow cover captures the intricate physiology of the creatures observed during the expedition and captures a fantastic world deep beneath the sea. |
