A pioneer of the arts and crafts movement, the British naturalist William Morris created a prolific collection of designs that explored the beauty of nature. Here we were inspired by some of the prints and created kaleidoscopic patterns in varying shades of indigo ocean blue. Overall, the tones are a warmer blue, with even hints of teal. Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist that created a volume of abstract art. Her childhood experiences in nature inspired her diagrammatic works, and her paintings were often a visual representation of complex spiritual ideas. When she passed, she willed her collection of over 1200 pieces to her nephew Erik af Klint and asked that the collection be kept a secret for 20 years. In modern deliberate strokes, each work of art evokes a futuristic quality in color and pattern, conjuring the spirituality of art. This collection is very unorthodox for what we are known for - classical prints, earth tones in a traditional setting. We get inspired by fine works of art, but at the same time, we find inspiration from colors, patterns and potential to transcend boundaries. In the last year, spending time hiking, and exploring, we have come to appreciate the beauty of nature. In geodes, we found vibrant colors of stones that have formed over time. Patterning these gems into fabric has created a contemporary pop of color unexpected from our creations. In going through this process give yourself permission to incorporate colors, and something new in your own special spaces. We've always had a motto of living poetically at Poetic Pillow. When we think about the hours of each day we spend, a big portion is in bed, resting, rejuvenating and dreaming. The designs of our bed throws and pillows inspire us to dream poetically. They speak to the beauty of the outdoors, captured through impressionistic paintings that meticulously capture the strokes of masters depicting flowers, leaves, stems and the rays of light that shine on the sheen of our silky poly satin. As we conclude this challenging year, take time, to embrace your restful space, and dream poetically. Stay safe, healthy and Merry Christmas. The tree of life has been shaken, And but few of us linger now, Like the Prophet's two or three berries In the top of the uttermost bough. We cordially greet each other In the old, familiar tone; And we think, though we do not say it, How old and gray he is grown! We speak of a Merry Christmas And many a Happy New Year But each in his heart is thinking Of those that are not here. We speak of friends and their fortunes, And of what they did and said, Till the dead alone seem living, And the living alone seem dead. And at last we hardly distinguish Between the ghosts and the guests; And a mist and shadow of sadness Steals over our merriest jests. This is a diptych pair of pillows inspired by a still life floral painting at the Rijsmuseum. The date of the painting has been estimated at 1700 - 1799 and the artist is anonymous. The strokes of paint used to enliven each flower from meticulous renderings of petals, stems and leaves give life to a beautiful bouquet. A baby blue background offers an elegant backdrop. In this diptych an oak tree comes to life on a water color painting originally made by the artist George Andies Roth (1809 - 1887). The work is a magnificent study of watercolor and the effects of light in nature. This painting currently resides in the Rijksmuseum collection of fine arts.
