Dutch and Flemish painters of the seventeenth century excelled at capturing the beauty of bouquets in still life paintings. Artists tested the boundaries of skill and imagination. Many works captured the realism of petal and stem without having real still life models to paint from. Blossoms were conjured from imagination and sketch as flowers arranged often bloomed in varying seasons.
